BrainsBarn consists of craft artisan, Brian and his wife, Anne. What started as her "simple" request for a wooden crochet hook has taken us on a real adventure and we invite you to join in...as many collectors of quality craftmanship have done so.
Brian is a machinist by trade with a history of woodworking and an expertise in jewelry making. His creativeness can be seen in each and every one of his handturned needlework items.

All items are handturned on a lathe; all designs are his own freehand creations as NO templates are used. After the turning work, all hook ends are carved and sculpted by hand. Every working end of all crochet hooks is precision sized by millimeter.

A lengthy finishing process of sanding, sealing, hand polishing and buffing ensures a smooth finish. NO stains or dyes are ever used on any of BrainsBarn 100% natural wood hooks. There are no other employees; there is NO outsourcing; all items are made at our NJ residence by Brian...one item at a time.
Only when Brian is satisfied with the finished product will his maker's mark be stamped on the finial end along with the letter size for your convenience. His maker's mark is your guarantee that each item is 100% handcrafted by Brian from start to finish. All wood items also include a Certificate of Authenticity.
We have 5 Domestic hardwoods and 22 Exotic hardwoods in stock. While all are named on the hook pages, all may not be represented at one time. This website is updated as hooks are created.BrainsBarn is the 2008 CGOA Commemorative Hookmaker
